The White House said today that "Thanks to the leadership of @POTUS, the U.S. generated over $150B in tariff revenues within the past 6 months."
Jonah Goldberg, whose newsletter I am a regular reader and subscriber of, responded sarcastically on X:
"Weird. White House boasting about the president raising $150 billion in tax revenue off American businesses and consumers."

I am not a fan of tariffs. Trump has used tariffs as a negotiating tool, but he also truly believes in them. He campaigned on them. Why this surprises anyone is a case for therapists to unpack. That being said, our allies have no problem putting tariffs on many U.S. products and blocking certain industries from coming into their country (think agriculture). This is just a fact.
But what is really "weird" is that many of these fiscal hawks moaning and groaning about our need to reduce our annual budget deficit and HUGE national debt (which I am one of those fiscal hawks), do not seem to realize that to reduce our budget deficit, American "businesses and consumers" are going to pay one way or another. None of the punditry jesters seem to have calculated this or TDS has clouded their minds and they fail to recognize this fact.
We obviously had to fight the dogs of liberal punditry hell and legacy media to simply cut $9 billion out of a $6.8 trillion federal budget. Think about all the doom and gloom liberals and legacy media made out of cutting this minuscule amount for some foreign aid and public media funding.
We cannot even tackle entitlements because these many progressive hacks and reporters will make an issue of any mention of reforming and making Medicare and Social Security sustainable for our children and grandchildren.
So dear consumers and clinically diagnosed Trump Derangement Syndrome casualties, there is NO appetite to raise taxes or do transformative budget cuts to get our fiscal house in order. That is a fact.
So... where do you think we're going to get the revenue to get our house in order? Trump thinks it's things like putting energy exploration on steroids, driving high growth, and imposing tariffs.
You don't like it, come up with your own plan that can actually get accomplished. Cocktail party experts need not apply.
