America just commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks in New York. Two months before the anniversary, on the 250th anniversary of this country, New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani, gave an address and indicted America for its sins. There is a rich irony there.

There are two Mamdani’s Americas, one
that he talks about, and another that he lives in.
In the first version, America is a racist country, anti-immigrants, filled with prejudice. It is an America in which his aunt was scared to wear hijab after 9/11. It is where powerful people with money control politics.
The second version is the real America, a country that Mamdani can reach the heights of power. Just imagine, a generation after 9/11, New York City has a Muslim mayor who immigrated to the United States. In that real America, it turns out, Mamdani’s aunt never covered her hair to be persecuted for it. Wealthy people do not control politics because, in New York City, where there are more wealthy people than any other city, they could not stop a socialist from winning the mayorship.
Mamdani has every reason for gratitude towards America, except a leftist ideology so powerful that even facts cannot defeat it. So he has to create a fictional account to condemn the country that has given him everything.
But for the rest of us, we should not overlook these facts. It is a great thing that Americans are so generous and open minded that they would elect a Muslim as the mayor of New York City. The problem with Mamdani is not his faith. It is that he has not found a terrorist sympathizer he does not like, including his wife who really loves terrorists. It is that he is a socialist. And he is all those things because he hates our country. The problem with Mamdani is ingratitude.
And Mamdani is not a one-off. There are four Muslims in the U.S. House of Representatives. A fifth one is all-but-certain to win in New Jersey and join them. Michigan could elect a Muslim, Abdul El-Sayed, to the U.S. Senate this year.
Don’t get me wrong. These Muslim politicians are not the best people. If anything, they are much worse, much less apologetic about loving terrorists and hating America and Jews. That is a problem. But also, it is proof that America is not a racist country.
After 9/11, people warned of a wave of hate crimes against Muslims. But there were only a handful of people who were murdered as a revenge. Compare that with how many attacks there have been against Jews in recent years, mostly but not all, by Muslims. At the time, if you said that, within a generation, New York City would elect one as its mayor, people would think you were crazy. Yet, here we are.
There are so many bad things about Mamdani. He is hateful, ungrateful, and a socialist. He deserves to be opposed, and he should be stopped from ruining New York. He should be attacked for making the city unsafe for Jews. But there is one—and only one—good thing about him: He himself is the best evidence that he is full of it, that America is not a racist country. Because a racist country would never have put him where he is.
If anything, America’s problem is the opposite of being racist. It is being suicidally open-minded, so much so that it is comfortable with handing power to people who, at best, hang out with terrorist sympathizers and, at worst, like terrorists.
