With just over a week until Virginia voters head to the polls, Breaking Battlegrounds sat down with John Reid, candidate for Lieutenant Governor, to talk about the stakes of this election, the record of Governor Glenn Youngkin, and why he believes Virginia’s future depends on staying the course of growth and balance.
Joining hosts Chuck Warren and Kylie Campbell, Reid reflected on how far Virginia has come under Youngkin’s leadership — and what could be lost if voters turn back toward old political habits.
A Record of Growth and Good Governance
“Glenn Youngkin’s had a pretty successful four-year run,” Reid said. “He’s brought in a lot of new business, a lot of new jobs. He’s managed to avoid some of the ugly political fights that might have been polarizing — and I think a lot of Virginians are tired of that.”
Reid emphasized that this election isn’t about partisanship — it’s about preserving progress. Virginia has drawn national attention in recent years for pragmatic leadership and pro-business policies, creating jobs and attracting new industries to the state.
As Lieutenant Governor, Reid says he plans to continue that work — keeping Virginia competitive, stable, and welcoming to new investment.
A Purple State at a Crossroads
Virginia has long been one of America’s true swing states, flipping between red and blue in major races. Reid acknowledges that reality, especially the influence of Northern Virginia’s large population of federal employees and government contractors.
“You’ve got a group of people up in Northern Virginia,” Reid said, “who are bureaucrats in the federal government — no disrespect intended — but they are disinclined to be supportive of President Trump, which is why Kamala Harris wound up winning Virginia last year.”
That division, Reid says, is precisely why his campaign focuses on local leadership, not national personalities.
“I’m Not Here to Argue About Trump”
Throughout the campaign, Reid has made one message clear: this election is about Virginia’s future, not the past.
“One of the things I’ve talked about for months is, I’m not going to argue with you about President Trump,” he told Breaking Battlegrounds. “I’m here to bring jobs to Virginia. I’m here to bring stability and reasonable thought.”
His focus, he says, is on results — not rhetoric.
“Let’s not turn this state over to the radicals who have hijacked the modern Democrat party,” he added. “We can disagree politically, but we can’t afford to undo the progress that’s made Virginia stronger.”
Eight Days to Go
With just eight days left before Election Day, John Reid’s campaign is making its final push across the Commonwealth. His message is direct: keep Virginia moving forward.
“Jobs. Stability. Common sense,” he said — values he believes unite voters across party lines.
As Virginians prepare to vote, Reid’s call to action is clear: focus on what works, reject division, and choose leadership that keeps Virginia on the rise.

Our first guest, John Reid, running for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, the great state of Virginia, which it’s interesting, John, thanks for coming on the show that you’ve had such a successful governorship the past four years of Glenn Youngkin. And Virginians are thinking about going back to the ways of the past and Youngkin’s approval ratings are pretty good. What’s going on out there?
John Reid: Yeah, you know, Virginia has long been kind of a purple state. We go back and forth over who’s going to run things. I agree with you.
